Espoo rises from the sea When the last ice age ended around 10 000 years ago, the waters from the melting glaciers covered large areas. Pushed down by the massive weight of the ice, the earth’s crust now began to return to its original position. The process of land uplift was rapid at first, gradually creating a new archipelago in Southern Finland.
